Today in class, we turned in our School Menu assignment. I found this assignment very interesting and relevant to what I will possibly be doing later in my life. I would love working in a school system, and helping kids be healthy. I liked making sure the menu included the right amount of vegetables, fruits, and grains, and at the same time making sure there was variety to the menus.

With the remainder of class, we had a discussion about the different speakers we have had come to our class, and what we learned about them. We have had a wide variety of speakers come in to talk to us about their current experience and their background. It shows that there are many different paths to follow with nutrition.

Our group also met to discuss the specific vegetables we will be planting, and when we think its best to do this. I'm looking forward to going to White's Mill, and seeing all of the options we have for our plot.

Francie Astrom is an RD working at WellWorks at Ohio University. She came in to talk to us about her background, and what it would be like to work at WellWorks or a similar facility. WellWorks is different because it deals with the wellness aspect of nutrition as opposed to counseling someone who already has a health problem. People go to WellWorks because they want to, not because they were recommended by a doctor.

This is yet another example of a path that an RD can choose.
